Meet Our Directors

Carly Alexander

Picture
Carly Alexander resides in Portland, Maine with her husband, Ben, and children, Laughlin and Maitland. As a Maine family they spend time exploring and being active outdoors. She dedicates her time to organizations supporting new Mainer’s seeking asylum and combating food insecurity across the State.

Sam Bigelow

I have spent my career in education, first as a college admissions officer, and for the last fifteen years as college counselor at a high school. IFC's mission and work is incredibly important to me and the fact that I can bring some expertise as an educator, specifically to the scholarship work that we do, is very meaningful. I am incredibly grateful for the chance to give something back to this island community that has given my family so much over the years.

Maria Forney

Picture
Maria Forney lives north of San Francisco in Larkspur, California. She is a lifelong visitor to Islesboro and a supporter of the Islesboro Community Fund (ICF). She first became involved with ICF via her mother, a former ICF Director. Maria is inspired by the mission of ICF and honored to play a role in supporting Islesboro community members.

Trish Goodspeed

Picture
Pastor Trish Goodspeed is the full-time pastor of Islesboro 2nd Baptist Church. She brings to ICF an on-going pastoral care outreach with the island.  Prior to this Pastor Trish provided ecumenical spiritual care at Maine General Hospital as a chaplain for nearly a decade. Pastor Trish notes:  “joining the ICF Board of Directors is another facet of ministry from which I can serve our island community”.

Marny Heinen

Picture
Destiny ferried Marny Heinen to Islesboro as a full time resident 25 years ago. She was soon impressed by ICF Director David Boulton’s concern for the community and that he could help through the work of the Community Fund. Everyone was confident that he respected their private situations and understood that we all have trouble sometimes. Marny is honored to be part of his legacy and hopes he'd be proud of the programs ICF has undertaken to address small issues before they become big ones.

Nina Houghton

Picture
I am honored to join the ICF board.  I have long admired the work of the Fund from afar and then was able to see its benefits up close through my recent time on the Islesboro Preschool Board.  I hope to contribute to the ongoing work of past and current board members and the community overall.  In my off-island life I work as an educational researcher and consultant from my home in Santa Monica, CA.

Owen Howell

Picture
I have been a Physician Assistant on Islesboro since 2002 and am honored to be on the ICF Board of Directors. The work of the fund dovetails nicely with the mission of the Islesboro Health Center and we are indeed fortunate to enjoy this safety net which can provide a little extra help in time of need.

Michael Hutcherson

Picture
Michael Hutcherson is a native of Missouri and currently lives and works on Islesboro with his wife, Pam Larson. Together they own and operate Growing Things, an organic market garden UpIsland. He brings a unique perspective to ICF and cares immensely for the people of Islesboro.

Molly Ladd

Picture
I live in Charlestown, MA with my husband, Haven, and three kids, Lilly, Henry and Anson.  As a family, we try to spend as much time as possible on Islesboro and can often be found enjoying all that the island has to offer, in all seasons.  Being part of the Islesboro Community Fund (ICF) is an important part of our connection to the community, which makes the island so vibrant and special.

Jennifer McFarland

Picture
As a full-time resident for over a decade, I am honored to be a part of the ICF board now. During my time teaching at Islesboro Central School and now as a community liaison to the OPTIONS program, I have seen firsthand how life can offer unexpected challenges and opportunities to our community members.  ICF has a long-standing history of addressing the needs of our neighbors, and it is humbling to sit with this group of dedicated volunteers. Please reach out if I can help you navigate either the process of filling out an application or if you need assistance in finding alternative help, such as applying for MECARE, etc.

Maxine Nelson

Picture
I have been living on Islesboro for 50 years and a member of ICF Board of Directors for 20+ years.  Because of the unconditional generous donations from our year-round and summer community, the Fund has grown.  I am honored  to have a part in the delivery of the ICF mission which is to help those islanders in need.

Lorraine Pendleton

Picture
I was born and raised on Islesboro. I joined the Islesboro Community Fund board 2 years ago. It is a wonderful organization to be a part of. It gives me great pleasure to be a vital resource for my island friends in hard ship. I look forward to many more years to come with this amazing organization.

Eliza Sharp

Picture
My family and I were lucky enough to have stumbled upon Islesboro 9 years ago and each year find our hearts and souls growing more and more steeped in this special place and community.  We live most of the year in Lyme, CT (I have a thing for ticks, what can I say?), where I have been involved with many arts and community organizations over the years.  On Islesboro, I have served on the Pripet Riding Program board for many years, including as past president.  I am so honored to have been asked to be a member of the board of the Islesboro Community Fund. When I’m not involved with my non-profit passions, you can usually find me with my Labradors, Molly and Scout.  My family - human and canine alike - all adore Islesboro and want to do all they can do help the community flourish.

Judy Smith

Picture
Judy Smith moved from Rhode Island to Islesboro 37 years ago. She's spent much of her career working with young children, first at Islesboro Preschool and now at Islesboro Central School. Judy is proud to be a board member of the Islesboro Community Fund and honored to help serve our island community.

Mary Truslow

Picture
Mary Truslow arrived on Islesboro during the summer of 1999 as the “Guest” of Ned Truslow, who is "Mrs. T’s" grandson. Mary's passion for people and the outdoors helped her adapt to the intricacies of the island. Mary has passed her love of Islesboro on to her children George and Chattie , both of whom spend all their free time on the island. Mary was raised in a family dedicated to service and hard work. She delivered Meals-on-Wheels, cared for special needs adults and raised money for the Newport Hospital along- side her parents. Mary was a full-time high school teacher for 30 years and continues to tutor high school Spanish. The Community Fund is another of Mary’s passions for its direct, effective, no-nonsense approach to delivering effective help where it is most needed.

Abby Wilder

Picture
My love for the island began when I was a little girl and came to visit my grandparents.  My mother was a full-time resident for the last decade of her life.  She served on the ICF board and it was through her that I first learned about the work of the ICF and the importance of having this resource for our friends and neighbors on the island.  I am truly honored to now be a part of the board.  When not on the island, my husband Henry and I live near San Francisco with our two dogs.  I run a small charitable foundation that supports programs in education and the environment in the San Francisco Bay Area.  We have three children and one grandchild, none of whom has ever missed spending at least part of the summer on Islesboro.

Maggy Willcox

Picture
In 1991, Maggy Willcox arrived with her son Sky to spend the summer on Islesboro, and never left. Determined to give him a peaceful, safe childhood, she built a house for them in the Ruthie James Subdivision and patched together a living at numerous jobs, finally taking over the reins of the Islesboro Island News in 2009. “I was honored and grateful to be asked to join the board of the Islesboro Community Fund. Having once been a recipient of the Fund’s assistance, I know the extraordinary role it plays in the community’s well-being. I’m happy to be able to help out in this way; I owe so much to this place and people for the support and kindness shown to me and my family.”
